Richard J. Onorato

Richard J. Onorato, age 90 of New Milford, passed away Saturday, October 16, 2010, at New Milford Hospital. He was the husband of Stella Hood Onorato. Mr. Onorato was born in New Milford, January 27, 1920, son of the late Pasquale and Angela D'Angelo Onorato. He was a graduate of New Milford High School and a World War II veteran, serving with the U.S. Navy. Mr. Onorato was a meat cutter for the First National Store, New Milford for 30 years, retiring in 1985. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Church and the Knights of Columbus of New Milford. He was a member of the New Milford Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the New Milford Fire Association Board of Directors. He was also a member of the V.F.W. Post 1672 and the American Legion, both of New Milford, and the U.S. Submarine Vets World War II. In addition to his wife of 61 years, he is survived by a son, Richard Onorato; a daughter, Angela Scileppi; daughter-in-law, Debbie Onorato; and three grandchildren, Kristin, Keith and Heather. He was predeceased by a son, Michael and two brothers, Robert and Salvator. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 20, 2010, at 11 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier Church, New Milford. Burial will follow at St. Francis Cemetery, New Milford. Friends may call on Tuesday, October 19, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge Street, New Milford.
