Robert Featherstone Obituary

Robert D. Featherstone, a retired General Electric executive who pursued a passion in genealogy in his spare time, died on November 9, 2010 at Norwalk Hospital. He was 88 years old. Mr. Featherstone was born and raised in Syracuse, NY, son of Heber and Cora (Abby) Featherstone. He interrupted his studies at Syracuse University to serve in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946 and completed his studies after his honorable discharge and graduated from Syracuse University. Upon graduation, he received an offer to work with General Electric Company where he worked for thirty-nine years in several capacities. On a trip to Bogota, Colombia as an international auditor, he met his future wife, Shelagh Owen Johnson. Mr. and Mrs. Featherstone have been married for 56 years. In addition to his passion for genealogy, Mr. Featherstone was also an avid golfer and traveler. He was also a member of the Ridgefield Men's Club. He is survived in addition to his wife, Shelagh by a daughter, Margot Boyd; three sons, James Featherstone and his wife, Betty Pitchford of Dallas, Texas, Michael Featherstone and his wife, Marge of New York City and Robert Featherstone and his wife, Karen of Bridgeport,; and nine grandchildren, Brittany, Randi, Danielle, Talia, Denee, Dalton, Jesse, Caleb and Allie. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, November 12th, 2010 at 2p.m. in St. Mary Church, Ridgefield with Rev. Russell Augustine, parochial vicar officiating. Interment will take place in St. Mary Cemetery at the direction of the family. Friends will be received in the Kane Funeral Home, 25 Catoonah St., Ridgefield on Friday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Contributions in Mr. Featherstone's memory and honor may be made to St. Mary Church, 55 Catoonah St., Ridgefield 06877.
