Robert G. Bevington, age 77 of Bethel, passed away peacefully on May 24, 2011 with family by his side, due to complications from Alzheimer's Disease. Robert was born on December 6, 1933 in Fairbury, Nebraska to Robert and Gladys Bevington who have preceded him in death, along with his brother, Jim Bevington. He is survived by wife Joan of 53 years; his three sons, Steven, Scott, Robert and his wife, Claire; daughter, Joanie; and his granddaughters, Kasey M. Burke and Lillian M. Bevington. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Elaine Bevington; nephew, Tom Bevington of Derby, Kan.; his niece, Pam and her husband, Brent Curtis and their children, Chris and Kelly of Great Bend, Kan. Robert graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1954. From there he went to work to for Western Electric in Chicago, Ill. and then Omaha, Neb. In 1960, he began a 32 year career with IBM, which started in Rochester, Minn. and ended in Wilton. His last 18 years were spent as Director of Product Management in their International Division, which was responsible for Europe / Middle East and Africa. This gave him the opportunity to live in Paris, France for five years. He then went to work as a management consultant for two firms in the tri-state area. He spent a few years as a tax consultant with Jackson & Hewitt. He volunteered with the United Way for several years. He also enjoyed being an active member of the Bethel Republican party and on the board of the inland-wetland committee. The family will receive friends in the Bethel Funeral Home, 215 Greenwood Ave. Tuesday, May 31, 2011 from 6 to 8 p.m., with a closing service at 7:45 p.m. There will be a private family funeral in Nebraska at a later date.
