Russell Edwin Berry, Ed the tire man, passed away on April 16, 2014, after a courageous battle with cancer surrounded by his wife, Sandra Berry and family. He was born September 6, 1934 in New Milford, CT, son of the late Bruce Russell and Irene Woodford Williamson Berry. He was a graduate of New Milford High School class of 1952. In 1957, he married the love of his life, Sandra Gloria Chambers, living in New Milford their entire life they raised three sons, Russell Jr and his wife Julie of Warren, CT, Jeffrey Berry of New Preston, CT, Craig Berry and his wife Sue of New Milford, CT. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Kyle, Jeffrey, Trevor, Joseph, Steven, Emily & Ryan and will sadly be missed by his dog, Sassy. Ed loved his family, gardening & taking care of his property. Throughout Ed's life he touched a lot of peoples hearts and lives. Ed served in the U.S. Military from 1957 to 1963, as a supply sergeant for the Army. He was employed as a tires salesman for WG Southworth, Zeller Tires, and Murphs before retiring in 2010. Ed was a 50-year member of the Water Witch Hose Company, a member of the Bridgeport Motorcycle Club where he set many records, and a member of the SNYRA Racing Association. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, April 23, 2014, from 5-8p.m., at Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge Street, New Milford, CT. A funeral service will follow at 8 pm. Burial will be private. Donations may be made to St. Jude's or the to support those struggling with cancer.
