Sal Cucco, 50, formerly of Stamford, CT died surrounded by his loving family, on Saturday, July 27, 2013 at Danbury Hospital. He endured countless surgeries and procedures with an ever positive and courageous spirit that inspired all who loved him. Sal was born in Stamford on January 18, 1963 to Alberto and Giovanna Cucco. He graduated from Stamford Catholic High School in 1981. As an enterprising young man, Sal became the owner of several businesses including Galaxy Limousine and World Travel, Luna Rossa Restaurant and Cucco's Catering. His beautiful singing voice, and love for Italian music also led him to join James Daniel Entertainment, where he performed at special events for many years. He was also an experienced dog trainer and barber.
Sal was predeceased by his Mother Giovanna DeRubeis Cucco, his sister Maria-Rita Recchia, his paternal grandparents Pasquale and Caterina Cucco, his maternal grandparents Giuseppe and Marietta DeRubeis, his Uncles Michele and Mario Cucco and his cousins Theresa Cucco Ferrajina and Pasquale Cucco.
He is survived by his beloved wife Paula, daughter and "princess" Marisa, son and "partner" Giovanni, parents Alberto and Theresa Cucco, brother-in-law Domenic Recchia, nephew Tony Recchia (Sandy), great-nephew Anthony, great- niece Juliana, Nephew John Recchia, (Dominika), great-niece Adrianna and many aunts, uncles and cousins in Settefrati Italy and Canada.
For many years Sal was a member of he Settefratese Social Club. As a third degree member of the Virgillius Council 185 Knights of Columbus in Newtown he was recently awarded "Knight of the Year" and was head chef and chair for many of their council dinners and fundraising efforts. Sal was a parishioner of Saint Rose of Lima Church and was devoted to La Madonna di Canneto and Padre Pio.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 31 at 11 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Church, 46 Church Hill Road, Newtown, CT. Interment will follow at St. John's Cemetery, Darien, CT. Relatives and friends may call at the Lacerenza Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 8 Schuyler Avenue, Stamford on Tuesday, July 30 from 4-8p.m. There will be no visitation at the funeral home prior to the Mass.
