Sam Christos Obituary

age 77 of Brookfield, husband of Bessie (Zavlanos) Christos died peacefully surrounded by his loving family at his residence on Friday, October 14, 2011. Mr. Christos was born in Ypsilantis, Greece, August 29, 1934, a son of the late Chris and Labrene (Sakas) Christos. He was raised and educated in Greece. He immigrated to the United States in 1967 settling in Bethel. From 1972 to 1989 Mr. Christos resided in Danbury when he moved to Brookfield. A machinist by trade, Mr. Christos was employed with Union Camp Corporation of Newtown, CT until his retirement in 1996. An avid gardener, he enjoyed growing flowers and raising vegetables for his family and friends. He was a devoted husband and father and his most special joy and happiness was the time spent with his grandchildren. He will be sorely missed. Mr. Christos was a member of the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church of Danbury. In addition to his wife, Bessie of forty-seven years, he is survived by three sons, Chris S. Christos and his wife, Deb and their children, Abel, Asa and Anna of Burlington, CT, Louis S. Christos and his wife, Dana and their children, Luke and Zoe of New Milford, CT and Stephen S. Christos and his children Jason, Sophia and Alexander of Brookfield; a brother, Efstathios Christos of Greece; two sisters, Joanne Biniaris of Danbury and Maria Manolakes of Bethel and several nieces and nephews. The Rite of Burial will take place on Monday (tomorrow) at 11am in the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, 30 Clapboard Ridge Rd., Danbury with the Rev. Fr. Peter Karloutsos officiating. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury. The family will receive friends in the Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home, 9-11 Granville Ave., Danbury on Sunday (today) from 4 pm to 7 pm. The Trisagion Prayer Service will be conducted in the Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home this afternoon at 5 pm. Contributions in Mr. Christos' memory and honor may be made to the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, 30 Clapboard Ridge Rd., Danbury, CT 06811.
