Susan Barbara Gilbert (Lambe), of New Fairfield, CT passed away suddenly, yet peacefully, at her home on July 29, 2014, one week after her 62nd birthday. Susan was born on July 22, 1952 in Brooklyn, NY and grew up in New Fairfield. Soon after graduating from Danbury High School in 1970 she started the family she cherished so much. Susan had a passion and talent for cooking and was well known for always bringing the most amazing dish to any gathering. She was also very talented at knitting, crocheting, and sewing, making many of her children's Halloween costumes and her grandchildren's baby blankets. Susan truly spent every day of her life helping others in any way she could, from family to strangers. She particularly enjoyed her visits with her brother John, and being with her children and grandchildren. Her brother, children and grandchildren loved her just as much. Known for her generosity and always willing to give more than she had, whether a trip to the store, a well-timed phone call, or last minute sitter, Susan was always ready to help wherever she was needed. She was a confidant and friend and such an important part of all our lives. We hope she knows how much she was truly appreciated and how deeply she is missed. The love and kindness she gave us well surpasses the amount of years she was with us.
Susan was a devoted and much loved daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, daughter-in-law, sister-in-law, and aunt. She is survived by her father, Phillip B. Lambe of Florida, her husband John R. Gilbert Jr., daughters Brandy Setzler and her husband Chris of New Milford, Samantha Gilbert and her husband Joseph, and son John R. Gilbert III of New Fairfield, her cherished grandchildren, Christian, Kahra, Justin, Sean-Michael, Alexandra, and Everett, and her brothers John Lambe and wife Charlene, Philip Lambe and wife Paula, and Dennis Lambe, along with many nieces and nephews. Susan was predeceased by her sister Mary Lou and mother Dorothy.
