Virginia E. Kinney age 65 of Bridgewater, CT died Monday April 1, 2013 in New Milford Hospital. She was the long time companion of the late Dimitri Tsigonia of Astoria, NY.
Virginia was born June 8, 2013 in New Milford, CT, a daughter of the late Starr R. and Edith (Booth) Kinney. She was the Valedictorian of the 1965 class of New Milford High School. Virginia graduated from Bucknell University with a degree in Elementary Education and received her master in education from Herbert H. Lehman College of City University in New York. She worked in the Yonkers School District for more than 30 years before retiring. Virginia loved to travel around the world to different exotic places while spending many summers in Greece. She was an active member of ST Joseph's Arimathia Church in Elmsford, NY while living in Yonkers and was a Sunday school teacher and on the Altar Guild and Vestry. As a child Virginia was an active worker at the Bridgewater Fair, calling out Bingo numbers. She was also a 4H member, loved the Beatles and enjoyed going to Broadway Musicales of which Les Miserable's was her favorite, seeing it five times. Upon moving back to Bridgewater, Virginia became an active member of ST Mark's Episcopal Church, being on the Vestry Board, Altar Guild and a reader for a number of years. She is also a past member of the Friends of the Burnham Library. Finally she was a long standing member of the Merkeykincorclam Association .. Everybody wants to be a Clam, but not everybody can!
Virginia is survived by three nieces; Jeanne Hagstrom Shannahan and her husband David and their son William of Yonkers, NY, Karen Hagstrom Burrows and her husband Stephen of Stratford, CT and Carol Hagstrom Wilbur and her children Melanie and Casey of Bridgewater, CT.
A Memorial Service will be held in ST Mark's Episcopal Church, Bridgewater, CT on Saturday morning at 11:30 am. Virginia's ashes will be buried in South Cemetery, Bridgewater at the convenience of the family.
