Walter Houghtaling Obituary

Walter A. Houghtaling Jr., 60, of Danbury, died on Saturday, November 6, 2010 at Danbury Hospital. He was the husband of Sharon C. (Lancey) Houghtaling. Mr. Houghtaling was born in Danbury, September 12, 1950, son of the late Walter A. and Marian (Williams) Houghtaling. He attended Danbury schools, worked at various local hat factories and the U.S. Marine Corps serving in Vietnam. He later became a bus and cab driver as well as Omaha Beef Co., Danbury. An avid fisherman, he enjoyed camping, flea markets and scenic route motor trips. He was a member of the Baptist Church of Danbury. In addition to his wife of thirty-seven years, he is survived by his aunts, Audrey "Taffy" Dinho, Gertrude Chesto and Anna Williams; uncles, Roger A. Williams Sr. and Richard C. Williams Sr.; mother in law, Mary (Schirmer) Lancey; brothers in law, William A. Lancey Jr., Wayne A. (Jo-Ann) Lancey and David M. Lancey; sister in law, Christy R. (Daryl) Strand and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Funeral services will take place on Thursday, November 11, 2010 at 7 p.m. in the Baptist Church of Danbury, 14 Granville Avenue, Danbury with the Rev. Dr. David Reinhardt officiating. Interment will be private and at the direction of the family. The family will receive friends at the Baptist Church of Danbury on Thursday from 6 to 7 p.m. Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home, 9-11 Granville Ave., Danbury is in charge of arrangements.

Sharon, Walt always had a story to tell, about the time that he was in Viet Nam or just life in general. I worked with him at Omaha and he made the days go by faster. I will miss him. May he rest in peace.
