Werner F. Kalinka, age 93 of New Fairfield, beloved husband of the late Gertrude (Schweibert) Kalinka, passed away at Danbury Hospital on Friday, September 17, 2010. Werner was born in Elberfeld, Wuppertal, Germany, son of the late Gustav and Emelia (Ohleff) Kalinka. He immigrated with his family at the age of nine and lived in Brooklyn, N.Y. where he finished his education. He also lived in Queens, N.Y. and Fairlawn, N.J., prior to moving to New Fairfield, in 1972. He was an avid traveler and had visited all fifty states during his travels. He was a longtime member of the New Fairfield Senior Center and the Squantz Engine Company of the New Fairfield Fire Department. He is survived by four children, Richard Kalinka and wife, Lori of New Fairfield, Carol Gramer and husband, Richard of West Islip, N.Y., Joan Tibaldi and husband, Gary of Farmingdale, N.Y. and Catherine Scogno of New Fairfield; as well as nine grandchildren, Krista, Lisa, Donna, Bonnie, Jennifer, Thomas, Gina, Nicholas and Brian; and three great-grandchildren, Amanda, Michael and Justin. Funeral services will be held at the Congregational Church of New Fairfield, on Tuesday morning at 11 a.m. Interment will be private. Friends may call at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Squantz Engine Company, P.O. Mr. Kalinka will be truly missed. His love of life, family, friends, garden & neighborhood will not be soon forgotten. His memory will live on in the fond memories of the young and stories of old. My family; Michael, Mikey, Timmy, Analiese and Melanie will miss him terribly. His generousity and kindness have been an inspiration.
