Thomas Joaquim Borges age 66, of Bethel, CT died Thursday February 13, 2014 at Danbury Hospital. He was the husband of Gloria (Gray) Borges.
Tom was born in Norwalk, CT a son of the late Joseph and Leduina (Carvalho) Borges. He served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. After military service, Tom was a Sheet-metal Smith and later became a master carpenter. He was well known in the Fairfield County area as a custom builder of homes and providing detailed finish work. Tom worked at Stew Leonard's for over 10 years designing and building counters and display cases for many of their stores. From 1971 to 1978 Tom and his wife owned and operated 'The Tackle Box' bait shop in East Norwalk, CT. He was an avid fisherman and served as a past President of the Norwalk Striped Bass Club. He was active in the Wilton Red Cross Center and a First Aid instructor as well as being a Red Cross Gallon Blood Donor. Tom enjoyed building and flying radio controlled airplanes with the Fly R C Club in Southbury, CT.
In addition to his wife of 44 years Tom is survived by three daughters Renae Simon of Titusville, FL, Jennifer Smith of Bristol, CT and Christina Lee of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, 9 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He also leaves one brother, Armand Borges of Norwalk, CT, two sisters, his twin, Delores Manca of Danbury CT, Leonora Montanye of Waterbury, CT. Tom is also pre-deceased by his older brothers, Servio Borges of Norwalk, CT and Acasio Borges of Redding, CT. He is also survived by several Nieces, Nephews, their children and grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday February 19, 2014 at 3 O'clock PM at the Hull Funeral Home 60 Division St., Danbury, CT 06810. Family will receive friends at the Hull Funeral Home on Wednesday from 1:00PM until the time of the service.
