He graduated from Erasmus Hall High School in Brooklyn and then Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH, where he played varsity baseball, varsity football, and was a member of the Ski Club. While at Dartmouth, he met his beloved wife, Anna Elizabeth (Betty) Macdonald, and they were married before he left to serve as a communications officer in the United States Navy on the USS Fulton in the Pacific during World War II.
For over 25 years John and his family lived in Stamford, CT, while he served as Director of Sales for CBS Radio and Mutual Broadcasting in New York City. During that time he made many cherished friends. For 22 years after his retirement John and Betty lived in Savannah, GA, where John worked at the Ships of the Sea Museum and took pleasure in golf and tennis. For the last two years he enjoyed friends in Saratoga Springs, NY, and New Fairfield, CT, especially those at the New Fairfield Senior Center. John was a man who touched many with his warmth, charm, and humor. He will be greatly missed.
John is survived by his daughter Janet Callow of Saratoga Springs, NY, and daughter Kathleen Hull and son-in-law Gary Hull of New Fairfield, CT; three grandchildren, Andrew, Kimberly, and Kristen Hull; and four great grandchildren.
