Gerald "Jerry" Shike, age 71, of Bethel, died peacefully on Wednesday, March 26, 2014, after a courageous battle with lymphoma.
Jerry was born on July 26th, 1942 at Monmouth, IL, son of the late Merlin and Bernice (Ranney) Shike. A farm boy and a 1964 graduate of Bradley University in Peoria, IL, he married Doris Teiken in 1964. The marriage produced two children, Brett (Christine) of Royal Oak, MI; and Jodie Shike Wright (Bruce) of Telluride, CO. Doris and Jerry divorced and he married Colleen Plimpton in 1978. That marriage produced two children, Courtney who resides in Manhattan, and Kyle who resides in Brooklyn. Eddie Rosario, Jerry's Fresh Air son, of Cooper City, FL, also survives him.
After a 30-year career with IBM, Jerry opened Shike Cabinetry, and subsequently built many kitchens and libraries in the tri-state area before his retirement in 2012.
Jerry was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Charles. In addition to his wife and children he is survived by his sister, Doris Lee and her husband Lawrence, as well as by numerous nieces and nephews and cousins.
Jerry loved his family, his church and his Harley. He was a good man, and will be missed.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday, at the Bethel Funeral Home, 215 Greenwood Avenue, Bethel.
The funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday at the Bethel United Methodist Church, 141 Greenwood Avenue, Bethel.
