William P. Wicks, Jr., 94, of Danbury passed away on April 8, 2014, at Danbury Hospital after a brief illness. William was born in Corona, New York, son of the late William P. and Arabel (Morgan) Wicks, Sr. He attended New York public schools and graduated from Flushing High School. William served in the U.S. Army for the duration of World War II. He received medals and citations for combat in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East as a member of the 82nd Airbourne Rangers, and left service in 1946 with a Certificate of Disability Discharge. In 1952, William moved to Danbury with his family.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Mildred L. (Pirie) Wicks, his son and daughter-in-law, William and Barbara Wicks, his daughters, Adair Cooper and Linda Bernabeo, and son-in-law, David Bernabeo. He will be dearly missed by his grandchildren, Stephanie and Michael Bernabeo, Daniel Wicks, Aimee and her husband, Adam Veness, Robyn and her husband, Roberto Alves, and his great-grandson, Julius Alexander Alves. He is also survived by his brothers, Edward and Donald Wicks, and a large extended family.
Arrangements for interment at Arlington National Cemetery are being made by Green Funeral Home. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions in his memory be made to Ability Beyond, 4 Berkshire Blvd., Bethel, CT 06801.
