James "Jimmy, Jimbo" Dean McHatten, 53, of Sandy Hook died June 28, 2014. Jimmy leaves behind his loving and caring mother, Barbara "Cookie" Simon of Sandy Hook and his sister Jeanne Tillinghast of Southbury, along with his nephew Alex and niece, Amber. Jim will also be remembered by many members of the Capponi, McLean, Simon & Tillinghast families. Jim was an avid sportsman who enjoyed both playing and watching sports. He was a Super Fan of his beloved Red Sox, Lakers and Vikings. He was a graduate of Newtown High School and attended Southern University. Jim was a residential painter and roofer for a local Newtown business. He was a good friend to many and was known as one of the funniest guys anyone knew. Many of his friends had commented that "Jimmy would give you the shirt off his back" with a gifted smile and a "heart of gold". Family and friends are invited to a memorial service of Jim's life on Sunday, July 13, 2014 at Sacred Heart Church, 910 Main Street South, Southbury. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. with a prayer service to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to .
