James Callahan Stuart, 78, of Bridgewater, CT, died Friday, July 11, 2014, at his home surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Nancy Jo Andrus Stuart. Mr. Stuart was born in Bridgeport, CT, January 25, 1936, son of the late Norman Lawrence and Helen Callahan Stuart. He was a graduate of New Milford High School, Class of 1954 and a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Berlin Crisis. He was employed as a auto mechanic for the CT. Department of Transportation for 36 years. Mr. Stuart was a lifetime member of the Bridgewater Fire Department and ambulance driver, member of the Roxbury Historical Machinery Society, parent volunteer for the Bridgewater Boy Scouts, member of the Litchfield County 4-H, Future Farmers of America, and the Kent Antique Machinery Society. He always worked the Bridgewater Fair. In addition to his wife of 53 years, he is survived by three sons, Robert and JoAnne Stuart of Warrenville, SC, Timothy and Michelle Stuart of Roxbury, CT, Kevin and Karin Stuart of Enfield, CT; a daughter, Nancy Ann Stuart of Bridgewater, CT; seven grandchildren, Abby, Alex, Ben, Chris, Johanna, Stevie and Stephanie; and two great-grandchildren, Kailey and Natalie. Friends may call on Saturday, July 19, 2014 from 9:30 AM to 11 AM at the Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge Street, New Milford, CT. Burial will follow at Center Cemetery, Bridgewater, CT. A Celebration of Life will follow the burial at the Bridgewater Fire Department.
