Hines, Sr., Henry C.
The Guest Book is expired.
Henry "Clay" Hines, Sr. of Bethel, CT died unexpectedly on Saturday, August 23, 2014 at his home. He was the husband of Ellen Perrine Hines and they have lived in Bethel for 32 years. They have three children; Henry Clay Jr., Conner Campbell, and Cayley Marie Hines. He has been amazing Dad, mentor and provider for them for 25 years and is sorely missed already.
Clay was born in Stamford, CT, April 8, 1956, son of Gordon and Priscilla Blaikie Hines and grew up in Darien, CT. He attended the King School in Stamford, CT and then went on to graduate from The Hotchkiss School in Lakeville, CT. He spent many happy years visiting and working with his family on Holiday Farm in New Harford, CT.
Clay and Ellen met at Cornell University where Clay sometimes studied Civil Engineering and received his Master's degree in Structural Engineering. He was an active member of Theta Delta Chi Fraternity at Cornell and loved to play his music there as well as help plan house parties. Clay and Ellen were married in 1982 in Centerport, LI. They liked to say 'they took their retirement in their 20's while their knees still worked' - Hiking, biking, & XC skiing in VT & ME on weekends, traveling in Europe and the Caribbean, and playing lots of volleyball with friends.
He has been with The DiSalvo Engineering Group in Ridgefield, since 1983 and as a principal since 1995. He worked on many local projects, including Bethel Middle School, Church of St. Mary in Bethel and the Ridgefield Library, to name a few. He thrived on designing and building things; solving problems and talking to people. He loved his job and his partners there.
He also coached for the Bethel Youth Soccer Association for 11 years while his kids played and he enjoyed every minute of it. Many people in town know him for his 'love of the game' watching & coaching from the sidelines! Through Soccer he met some of his closest friends. Affectionately known as 'The DAWGS & The Daisys " Clay spent many an hour with them; playing poker, trying to play golf, and enjoying the oldest vintage affordable at the time - by the glass or across the table! He will be sorely missed as a friend and for his entertainment purposes!
In addition to his wife and three children he is survived by siblings Pam Monroe Dekker (Boothbay Harbor, ME), Nancy H Senftleben (Westport, CT), Gordon Hines (New Hartford, CT), Blaikie Hines (Thomaston, ME), Brother and sister-in-law, Gerard Perrine (Potomac, MD), and Stacey P. Sass(Annapolis, MD) and too many wonderful nieces & nephews to name.
