Dorothy R Myers, 87, wife of the late Norris H Myers of Sandy Hook passed away Saturday, January 28, 2012. She was born on July 17, 1924 in Bethany, Ct. daughter of the late Arthur E. and Olive E (Short) Russell. Dorothy's greatest joy was her family. She was a homemaker and caregiver all of her life. As one of the founders of DATAR, later to become Ability Beyond Disability, she was employed for numerous years and devoted herself to making the world a better place for handicapped and mentally challenged children and adults. She is survived by her daughters Barbara Schenzer and her husband Daniel of Sandy Hook and Janet Myers of Torrington; her grandchildren Daniel Schenzer and his wife Christine of Waterbury Ct. and Scott Schenzer of Charlotte NC; her great grandchildren Reagan and David. Also, she is survived by two brothers, Sidney and his wife Edna of Zephyrhills, FL and Ernest and his wife Mary of Bethany Ct.; one sister Ruby DeCosta of Prospect Ct.; four sisters in law, Agnes Russell of Bethany, Ct., Hertha Russell of Woodbridge, Ct., Phyllis Myers of Southbury, Ct. and Nancy Coccia of Silver Spring, Md.; She was predeceased by her grandson David B Schenzer, three brothers, Charles, Merritt and Robert Russell and five sisters, Lena Fenwick, Henrietta Russell, Edna Clock, Alice laCroix and Laurice Jackson. A service was held on January 31, 2012. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Dorothy may be made to The Lutheran Home of Southbury, 990 Main St North, Southbury, Ct. 06488. Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown served the family.
