Donald Kingsley Gowan III, 38, of New Milford, CT died on Monday, May 7, 2012 at home. Donald was an Associate Director of Admissions and the Men's Head Basketball Coach at Canterbury School in New Milford, CT. Prior to that, Donald was a director of institutional equity sales on Wall Street in NYC. Born October 30, 1973 in Torrington, CT, he was the son of George-Ann DeVilbiss Gowan of Kent, CT and the late Donald Kingsley Gowan II. Donald graduated from Kent School in 1991. While at Kent, Donald played on the varsity football, basketball and baseball teams under the guidance of his father, Donald K. Gowan II, who taught and coached at Kent School for 38 years. He also served as a class prefect during his senior year. He received a Bachelor's degree from Trinity College in Hartford, CT in 1995 and was currently earning a Master's degree in Sports Management at Ohio University. Donald was an accomplished varsity athlete and coach, and captained the Kent School Tri-State League Basketball Champions in 1991. His father received the same prestigious distinction in 1966. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his sister, Anna Frances Gowan of Washington, DC and his brother, Andrew Everett Gowan, of San Francisco, CA. A memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 14, 2012 at St. Joseph's Chapel, Kent School, 1 Macedonia Road, Kent CT with Rev. Roger White officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Donald's memory may be made to the Don Gowan Fund, Canterbury School, 101 Aspetuck Avenue, New Milford CT 06776.
