Lee, Shelia D.
Shelia D. Lee, 61, of Danbury, passed away November 4, 2012 at Danbury Hospital. She was born on September 10, 1951 in Greenwood Mississippi and received her early childhood education in the Greenwood Public School System. She was a 1969 graduate of Threadgill High School. In addition she received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Education from Jackson State University in Jackson, Mississippi. She held numerous positions in the commercial and mortgage banking industry including Dallas Federal Savings, Pittsburgh National Bank, First National Bank of Denver, Home Equity Corp, Personal Mortgage Corporation, and the Law firm of Riefberg, Smart, Donohue, &NeJame. Due to her illness, she left the banking industry ending her professional career with a final assignment at Wachovia Bank (Wells Fargo). Shelia was well known and respected in the community with active involvement in organizations focused on promoting humanitarian projects. Her commitment was reflected in her tireless efforts as a charter memberof the Coalition of 100 Black Women, her participation in the local NAACP, Steering Committee member for Hord Foundation's Annual Scholarship Award Dinner, and on the Danbury News Times Editorial Board. In 1994 she was honored by Beneficial Mortgage Corporation receiving the Freda R. CaspersenNational Award. Additionally her ongoing enthusiasm in encouraging breast cancer patients led Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center to present her with a Certificate of Appreciation in honor of outstanding leadership, commitment, and support in the battle against breast cancer. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.In addition her interests in fashion, decorating and home design gave her many hours of tremendous personal joy and satisfaction. She leaves behind her loving husband Creighton Sr.; son, Creighton Jr.; mother, Erma Beaman; sister, Brenda Beaman; brother, Fletcher Beaman; in-laws Robert and Ethel Lee, sister in laws, Jennifer Lee, Dr.Roberta Lee-Powell, Diane Lee; nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives. Funeral services will take place Saturday, November 10, 2012 at New Hope Baptist Church, 12 Aaron B. Samuels Blvd, Danbury, CT 06810. The wake will begin at 9:00 A.M. until time of service at 11:00 A.M. Burial will take place in Greenwood, Mississippi at Travelers' Rest Cemetery on November 15, 2012.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Shelia's honor to The Memorial Sloan-Kettering: Evelyn H. Lauder Breast Center or Praxair Cancer Center at Danbury Hospital in their ongoing effort for the treatment and continued research in the cure for breast cancer.Shelia's love for the well being and care of children may be remembered through donations to Dr. Aaron B.
