Daniel Barden Obituary
Daniel Gerard Barden, of Sandy Hook, CT, born on September 27, 2005 in Pawling, NY, cherished son of Jacqueline and Mark, beloved brother of James and Natalie, left the physical world too soon on December 14th, 2012.
Daniel was the light of his family's life. Adored and admired by all, Daniel touched the lives of all who knew him with his warmth, inspiring spirit of kindness and generosity, outgoing and affectionate nature, and his imaginative play.
Daniel loved spending time with his family, both immediate and extended, riding waves at the beach, playing the drums in a band with his brother James and sister Natalie, foosball, reading, and making s'mores around the bonfire with his cousins at his Papa's house in Smallwood, NY. Daniel was on the Newtown soccer team and the Newtown Torpedoes swim team.
In addition to his immediate family, Daniel is survived by his grandmother Anne Barden of Yonkers, NY and grandfather Martin Giblin of Smallwood, NY. Daniel leaves behind many aunts, uncles, and cousins who will miss him immensely: Rosaleen Giblin Murchison and husband Peter of Ridgefield, CT and their children Cristen, John, Michael, and Matthew and his wife Lizzie; Martin Giblin of Bronxville, NY; Michael Giblin of Frederick, MD and his daughters Laura, Madeline, Jackie Pickett and husband Duane, and their children Mariah and Neil, and Corrinne Downs and husband Kenny, and their children Audrey and Leah; Madeline Giblin O'Neill and husband Michael, and their daughter Lauren of Ridgefield, CT; James Giblin of the Bronx, NY; Donald Giblin and wife Cathy, and their children Gerard, Jamie, and Catherine of Yorktown Heights, NY ; Kathleen Giblin of Rhinebeck, NY; Christine Giblin Risoli and husband Matthew, and their children Michael and Jane of Newtown, CT; James Barden of New York, NY; Timothy Barden and wife Mary, and their daughter Anna of Portland, ME; and Carl Barden of Deland, FL.
Daniel was preceded in death by his grandmother Madeline Giblin, grandfather James Barden, Sr., and uncle Gerard Paul Giblin.
A celebration of Daniel's life will begin with a wake on Tuesday, December 18th from 5-8pm at Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Newtown, CT. A funeral will follow on Wednesday, December 19th at 10am at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Daniel's name to the Sandy Hook School Support Fund, c/o Newtown Savings Bank, 39 Main Street, Newtown, CT 06470, or checks may be dropped off at any Newtown Savings Bank branch location. To donate online, go to https://newtown.uwwesternct.org

1/31/25 12:52 pm, im waiting til 2:35 to pick my son up from 5th grade and this tragedy popped in my head and wanted to leave a note, I dont know u but know christian and u would have been friends along with your classmates, saw your dad on t.v talking about what a beautiful boy u were, im so so so so sorry lil buddy, christian knows about you and was sad what happened to u and your friends, We Love u and will never ever forget u, i couldnt imagine losing my son to something so senseless, as i shed tears now i want you to know u impacted strangers lives across the country, i live in Medford, Oregon and just wanted you to know how u touched so many lives sweet boy, im so so sorry buddy, Rest Easy Daniel. Thinking of and your family today, sweet Daniel. To me it is important to learn about the victims lives. It makings my heart both happy and sad hearing about your passions, what your personality was like, and even specific memories from your short little life. Even without knowing you, I can tell what an angelic little boy you were. I really wish that I would of found about you another way... like maybe in the future you would of accomplished something amazing, or become a musician, we will never know... all I know is I would much rather know of you of that way. I try to stay as updated with the Sandy Hook Promise foundation, that your parents helped create. You are changing lives Daniel, you really are. You changed so many peoples lives while on earth and now many more while in heaven. I just wish things like this would stop already, it really hurts my heart, some people just don’t get it. It’s become so common today that I’m not even surprised when I hear about a shooting, and it makes me sick. Little by little, and day by day people are starting to realize. One day it will end, I promise! May you rest in eternal peace, sweet little angel.

Daniel was a very special, happy child and I can see why. My youngest grandson is now 7 and this film hits home.
