Allan Lexow McCroskery died peacefully at home on Wednesday, January 1. He was 92. He was born in Brooklyn, New York, the oldest child of Willis Romaine McCroskery and Marguerite vonRippon Lexow. He graduated from Adelphi Academy, Amherst College and the Pratt Institute in New York. He was a lead industrial designer at Elliott Noyes and Associates in New Canaan, CT. He then formed Bevilaqua, McCroskery and
Associates, located in Wilton CT. His notable work included the external design of original IBM Selectric typewriter. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the 254th Infantry Regiment.
He was married to Dorothy Froelich for 67 years and lived for many years in Stamford and Weston, CT, before moving to Sandy Hook in 2003. He was always involved with his children, photography, sailing and woodworking projects.
He is survived by sister Caroline Diggins, children Peter McCroskery and Katherine Duhamel and 6 grandchildren, and predeceased by Dorothy and daughter Barbara M. Hunter. He is fondly remembered for his warmth and compassion for everyone, gifts of wooden pens and boxes which he made, and his wonderful storytelling to all who would listen.
A sharing of memories will be held at the Walnut Tree Village Clubhouse on Jennifer Lane, Sandy Hook, CT (across from 163 Jennifer Lane) at 2pm on Saturday, January 12.
