Sandhu, Emma E.
Our beloved Emma Elizabeth Sandhu tragically died this past Friday March 14, 2014 at the age of 15. In her short but precious existence, she impacted so many through school, dance and just being. Her infectious spirit and vibrant personality infused life with fun, laughter and liveliness.
Emma was born in Chapel Hill, NC on March 31, 1998 and then moved to Ridgefield, CT in 2002 where she has resided since. She attended Ridgebury Elementary School, Scotts Ridge Middle School and was a sophomore at Ridgefield High School. Emma was an outstanding student and took immense pride in her work and learning. She participated in many school and extracurricular organizations including Mock Trial, Student Government and Orchestra. An avid member of the community, she engaged in numerous volunteer and service activities. However, her true passion and commitment were to dance.
Emma had danced since she was 3 and loved all dance styles but ballet reigned supreme. She dedicated her summers to her passion through summer intensives with the American Ballet Theater, Kaatsbaan and the Bolshoi Ballet. She danced with joy and determination and was particularly proud to dance as Snow Queen in this year's Nutcracker. Her graceful, artistic, passionate performances were always a joy to behold.
She is survived by her parents, Jeet and Maury Sandhu, her older sister Morgan and a large extended family. Her maternal grandparents William Augustus, Janet Allenwood and Jean Elizabeth Schear (step-grandmother) and her paternal grandfather, Shingara Singh Sandhu all predeceased her. She is survived by her paternal grandmother, Jatinder Kaur Sandhu, who resides in Orangeburg SC.
Emma will be remembered as a unique, loving, passionate, spirited, insightful and absolutely amazing young woman. The world truly lost a rising star. We will all miss her.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at 10:30 am in St. Elizabeth Seton Church, 520 Ridgebury Rd., Ridgefield with Fr. Joseph A. Prince officiating.
Interment will be private.
The family will receive friends in the Kane Funeral Home, 25 Catoonah St. Ridgefield on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 from 4 pm to 8 pm.
