Arzella (Bishop) Smith, 90, of Keyser, WV, died Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at the Heartland of Keyser Nursing Home.
Born on July 11, 1923 at Hancock, MD, she was a daughter of the late Howard Wesley and Jennie Margaret (Butler) Bishop. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Major Carl O. Smith in 1950; two brothers, Ralph and Morris Bishop; two sisters, Madalene Shillingburg and Twila Corbin and a dear friend, E.W. Hepburn.
Mrs. Smith was a loving mother, grandmother and homemaker and was known for her kind and friendly mannerism in that she never met a stranger. She had a deep and heartfelt faith and you could always be assured that she was praying for you. She was a member of the Bonnieview Apostolic Chapel and more recently attended the Grace United Methodist Church, both of Keyser. She also was a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary to Nancy Hanks Post # 3518, VFW
, Keyser and the Red Hat Society at Heartland of Keyser.
Surviving are three daughters, Nelda F. Ellifritz and husband Baxter of Keyser, Carla Nita Northcraft and husband Sandor of Cresaptown, MD and Winnie Hartman and husband Randy of Keyser; one brother, Eugene C. Bishop of Keyser; two sisters, Katie Maedean Winters of Romeo, Michigan and Betty Jane Ellifritz of Fayetteville, N; seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Monday, April 21, 2014 from 4-6 p.m.
A funeral service will be conducted immediately following the visitation at 6:00 p.m. with Rev. James McCune and Rev. Robert Fazzalore officiating.
Interment will be in the Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.
