Gary K. Wilson Obituary
Gary K. Wilson, 72, of Rt. 4, Pinepointe, Keyser, WV, died Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at his residence.

Born on September 9, 1941 at Piedmont, WV, he was son of Elizabeth P. (Pyles) Whisner of Keyser and the late Ivan Kent Wilson. He also was preceded in death by his stepfather, Mansfield J. "Manny" Whisner; his grandparents and two brothers-in-law, Dick DeVore and Troy Turner.

A member of the class of 1959 at Keyser High School, Mr. Wilson graduated from Potomac State College in 1961, West Virginia University in 1971 and received his Master of Science Degree in Management from Frostburg State University in 1981. He served in the United States Navy as Quartermaster during the Cuban Missile Crisis from 1961-1963. Gary was employed by PPG Industries in both Cumberland, MD and Carlisle, PA for a total of 13 years, resigning in 1975 as a plant environmental control engineer to heed God's calling on his life and begin a new career with the Burlington United Methodist Children's Home (now Burlington United Methodist Family Services) as vice-president for Finance and Administration. He retired 30 years later in 2005 as the President and Chief Executive Officer at B.U.M.F.S.

Mr. Wilson's professional career included memberships and activities in many organizations and agencies which include serving on the Mineral County Building Commission and as a past Vice Chairperson, member and past president of both the Alliance for Children and the West Virginia Child Care Association. He also served with the United Methodist Association of Health and Welfare Ministries in Dayton, OH, as chairperson of the Field Consultation Planning Committee, the CYF Section, the EAGLE Program Accreditation Committee and the Peer Review Team. He also was instrumental in the US Windforce Foundation, serving as chair of the Mineral County Allocations Committee.

In May of 2005, Gary was named an "Outstanding Mountaineer" by West Virginia Governor, Joe Manchin, III and received the same citation in October 2013 by Governor Earl Ray Tomblin. He also received the Legislative Citation from the WV House of Delegates in 2005 and received the 1999 Administrator of the Year National Award from the United Methodist Association of Health and Welfare Ministries.

Mr. Wilson was a dedicated, faithful member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Keyser, where he served as a Sunday school teacher, chairperson of the Administrative Board and the Building Committee; Keyser Rotary Club, serving as president from 2008-2009 and the United Way of Mineral County as chairperson of the Executive Committee and the Day of Caring and Sharing.

Surviving, in addition to his mother, are his wife of nearly 52 years, Carol A. (DeVore) Wilson; his loving children, Gary Todd Wilson and wife Kim of Williamsburg, VA, Michael Shon Wilson and wife Nancy of Huntingtown, MD, Kelli Ann Wilson of Keyser, Jarrod M. Wilson and wife Lori of Keyser and John Scott Wilson and friend Laura of Rawlings, MD; one sister, Vicki Turner of Keyser; 10 grandchildren, Megan Renner and Cayley, Joshua, Bethany, Lauren, Hannah, Nick, Tyler, Jesse and Sydney Wilson and five great-grandchildren, Eli, Dorian, Cameron, Collin and Gianna. Also surviving is the special family pet, "Holly Berry Wilson."

Friends were received at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Saturday, November 23, 2013 from 1-3 and 6-9 p.m.

Funeral services were conducted at the Grace United Methodist Church on Sunday, November 24, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. James A. McCune officiating.

Private entombment was in the Potomac Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Keyser.
