Leroy C. "Pete" Armentrout Obituary
Leroy C. "Pete" Armentrout, 88, of Keyser, WV, died Saturday, August 23, 2014 at the Heartland of Keyser Nursing Home.

Born on June 27, 1926 at Beryl, WV, he was a son of the late Lester and Minnie (Kuykendall) Armentrout. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Billie Irene (Maynard) Armentrout on May 7, 1983; a daughter, Virginia Shillingburg; a grandson, Tom Shillingburg; four brothers, Raymond, Junior, Orville and John "Buck" Armentrout and his best friend, "Tippie."

Mr. Armentrout was retired as a heavy equipment operator with Columbia Gas with 37 years of service and was also formerly employed with the B & O Railroad. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of the Falls Assembly of God Church, Greenland Gap, WV and Victory Post # 155, American Legion, Westernport, MD. He was an avid hunter, well known for his rabbit hunting and loved being with and talking to his son Butch's Vietnam buddies. Other than his Beagles, he loved his Jack Russell Terriers, "Zoomers" and "Patches." 

Surviving are two daughters, Betty Morton and husband Jim of Keyser and Carol Kenney and husband Tom of Swanton, MD; one son, Charles L. "Butch" Armentrout and wife Peggy of Keyser; one brother, Marshall Armentrout of Short Gap, WV; one sister, Mary Maxine Murphy of Cumberland, MD; his  grandchildren who he loved spending time with and loved listening to his stories, Craig Armentrout, Chuck Morton, Jimmy Morton, Kimberly Junkins, Lori Iser, Brenda Carner, Dorinda Kimbrell, Carol Tarkowski, Dawn Moore, Donald Kenneth McDowell and Pete, Jodie Lynn, Billie Jo and Rusty Shillingburg and a large number of great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Tuesday, August 26, 2014 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. and on Wednesday, August 27, 2014 from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Vivan Watts officiating.

Interment will be in the Sinclair Memorial Park, Cross, WV. Graveside military honors will be accorded.

The family wishes to thank everyone who cared for Pete at Grant Memorial Hospital and Heartland of Keyser.
