Richard Keith Umstot Obituary
KEYSER - Richard Keith Umstot, 84, of Georgia Avenue, Keyser, W.Va., formerly of Knobley Road, Keyser, died Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014, at the Heartland of Keyser Nursing Home.
Born on March 2, 1929, at Keyser, WV, he was a son of the late Raymond H. and Ina Mae (Emmart) Umstot. Twice married, he was preceded in death by both wives: Sarah Elizabeth (Pancake) Umstot on March 1, 1990, and Virginia Lee (Koontz) Fertig Umstot on Oct. 28, 2012; two brothers, LeRoy Umstot and Clifton Umstot Sr. and two sisters, an infant, Betty Louise Umstot and Delores Robinson.
A 1947 graduate of Keyser High School, Mr. Umstot was retired as a supervisor with the West Virginia Department of Highways, having worked out of both the New Creek and Burlington offices. He also was formerly employed with Penn Ventilator in Keyser. He was a member of the Fountain Gospel Chapel and Lodge # 662, Loyal Order of Moose, Keyser. He enjoyed farming and doing lawn work.
Surviving are his children, Brenda Diehl and husband Jim and Pam Swick and husband Steve, all of Keyser, and Richard "Doc" Umstot Jr. and wife Beth of Charleston, W.Va.; his stepchildren, Ronald Fertig and wife Karen of Burlington, Joy Fertig and companion Itchy Thorne and David Fertig and wife Karen, all of Keyser; seven grandchildren, Stacy Cook, Tyson and Shawn Swick and Jake, Emma, Sam and Grace Umstot; four great-grandchildren, Aaron and Brett Stump, Uriah Swick and Dakota Hardy; one great-great grandchild, Holdyn Leslie; four step grandchildren and several step great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Michael Goldizen officiating.
Interment will be in the Biser Cemetery, Knobley Road, Keyser.
The family requests that memorial contributions be directed to either the Mineral County Humane Society, HC 84, Box 12, Keyser, WV 26726 or to the Faith in Action Food Pantry, 71 James Street, Keyser, WV 26726.
