Peggy Lee Campbell Smith ROANOKE

Peggy Lee Campbell Smith, 76, of Westhill Drive, Roanoke, Virginia, and formerly of Clifton Forge, died on Sunday, September 26, 2010, at her residence, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on November 26, 1933, in Fishersville, Virginia, to the late George C. and Booty Campbell.

She worked for the Clifton Forge Kroger Store for 26 years, retiring as head cashier. She was a member of Rainbow Forest Baptist Church and enjoyed watching baseball, especially her favorite team, the Boston Red Sox. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Eddie Campbell and Donnie Campbell.

She is survived by her husband, Ernest L. "Cowboy" Smith Sr. and their dog, "Callie", of Roanoke; four daughters and sons-in-law, Tammy and Timothy "Pic" Cook of Louisa, Margaret and Rob Gibson of Goshen, Kentucky, Kristin and Jeff O'Neal of Beckley, West Virginia, and Lorie and Gene Ayers of Roanoke; a son and daughter-in-law, Lee and Carolyn Smith of Clifton Forge; two sisters, Betty Smith of Staunton and Patricia Back of North Carolina; nine grandchildren, Elexis Comer and her husband Jamie, Jessi Cook, Elizabeth Smith, Rebecca Smith, Christopher Gibson, Sydney Gibson, Chloe O'Neal, Sophie O'Neal, and Gina Ayers; two great-grandchildren, Tucker James Comer and Hayley Comer; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and special friends, Butch and Jackie Frantz of Roanoke.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, September 30, 2010, at the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home in Clifton Forge with the Reverend Rob Gibson and the Reverend Mike Grooms officiating. Interment will follow at Craigsville Cemetery in Craigsville.

Pallbearers will be Lee Smith, Pic Cook, Jeff O'Neal, Gene Ayers, Christopher Gibson, and Jamie Comer.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, September 29, 2010, at Nicely Funeral Home and other times at the home of Ernest Smith Sr., 4848 Westhill Drive, Roanoke or the home of Lee and Carolyn Smith, 3708 Longdale Furnace Road, Clifton Forge.

In Honor of Peggy

God called another angel home. It was a privilege to have known you. I will always remember your kindness and thoughtfulness. When I look at the stars at night, I will think of your smiling face. Gone from here but not forgotten.
