Tony Awkard Obituary
Tony Lee Awkard, 53, of Afton, Virginia, passed away Monday, July 28, 2008, at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville.
He was born July 31, 1954, in Charlottesville, the son of the late Mary E. Lockett-Awkard and Ernest S Awkard Sr.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Ersk-ine L. Awkard; and a great-niece, Ashlyn Sanders.
He was self-employed at a member of the Union Baptist Church in Avon.
Surviving relatives include three step-brothers, Ernest Awkard and his wife, Janet, of Barboursville, Cecil Steppe and his wife, Barbara, of Ruck-ersville, and Lucian Lockett and his wife, Judy, of Staun-ton; one sister, Hilda Diane Awkard of Afton; a sister-in-law, Louisa Awkard of Waynes-boro; three aunts, Tressie Boyd and her husband, Willie, Edna Lockett and Minnie Lock-et of Afton; a devoted friend, Deborah Dennis of Afton; and eight nieces; three nephews; four great-nieces; three great-nephews; and many other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, August 1, 2008, at the Union Baptist Church in Avon, conducted by the Reverend Philip A. Carter.
The body will be at the church one hour before the service.
Burial will be private.
Lewis Funeral Home in Waynesboro has been entrusted with the service.

Family,
I was sorry to hear about Tony's death. But as we all were taught at an early age. God is in control, and we are only bought here for a limited time. Tony was a very nice and pleasurable cousin to see always. I know that he now rests in Gods hands. He will be fine, rest on!!! God be with you all.Hilda, trust in god that he makes no mistakes. To my loving Uncle Tony who has taught me so much in life. The family will miss you so very much. We know that you was sent home to be with Gramps, Nana, Uncle Erskine and Ashlyn.
