Garry Ronald Hyslop, peaceably passed away on May 14, 2018. He was just two months shy of 80 years old.
Garry was preceded in death by his mother, Cherry Hyslop, father, Robert Hyslop and brother, Robert Lee Hyslop.
He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Carole and daughters Erika (Rick) Turton and Melissa (Craig) Ieppert. Sister, Cherry Dawson and brothers Larry (Jeanie), Ed (Cindy) Steve and Tim (Diane). He leaves behind five grandchildren, Rainey, Laik and Lyric Turton and Amanda and Autumn Rosen.
Garry enjoyed a life of adventures. His school days at Battle Creek Central High School were highlighted by his musical talents and all his intramural sports. He was Captain of the tennis team. Upon graduation he enlisted in the Navy. At the end of his service went to Kellogg Community College, then received his Bachelors in Design Engineering from Western Michigan College. He worked in manufacturing, the oil patch, turbine generators. He lived in Michigan, Texas, Kentucky, California, St. Croix, New Orleans and finally retired in Peoria, AZ.
He took up golf while living in St Croix and had a very unusual swing, but still managed to be a great player. The move to Westbrook Village was the beginning of a new phase. He joined the Shalom Club, The Men's and Couple Golf Clubs and it was here that he once again took up playing his music. Over a 15 year period he was a member of the Sun City Concert Band, The Pops Band, The Mellow Winds, The West Valley Ensemble, The Cactus Clarinets, The Wolfe Pack, The Saguaro Saxes. His love of golf flourished and all the trips we took (except the cruises), the golf clubs came with. He became an avid reader always on the list for the new Clive Cussler book.
His warmth and compassion for life and that dry sense of humor will be missed by all who knew him.
Services with military honors will be held 11:30 A.M. Thursday, May 31, 2018 at Sunland Mortuary, Sun City, AZ. To leave condolence messages for the family please visit
