SEAL BEACH, Calif. - Our beloved mother, Shirley Kay Gorman was granted her angel wings on June 20, 2014, after losing her long battle with COPD. Her final days were spent surrounded by her family in Seal Beach, Calif. Shirley was born January 20, 1935 in Sapulpa, Okla. She graduated in 1953 from Wichita High School North in Wichita, Kansas. She married her love, our dad, James E. Gorman on August 2, 1953. After moving to California they had three children; Kirk, Kristi and Jim. Mom was a homemaker and also worked outside her home as an accountant. In 1979 mom and dad moved to Phoenix, Ariz. where they purchased their dream home. They spent a lot of time there working on their home, playing golf and spending time with friends. Sadly, mom and dad's dreams were cut short with dad passing away from cancer in 1989. While in Arizonia, mom worked for the Department of Public Safety in Phoenix for 12 years and retired in 1997 as an Administrative Supervisor. She returned to work there part time until March, 2003. Mom was blessed with four beautiful grandchildren; CJ Wicker, Kyle Wicker, Sara Gorman and Alex Gorman of Long Beach, Calif. She enjoyed traveling and telling us all about her adventures upon her return. She volunteered for Habitat for Humanity, loved the game of golf and enjoyed sewing, painting and making miniature doll houses that were one of a kind. She was known as our very own, "Martha Stewart." In 2011, mom moved from Sun City, Ariz. to Seal Beach, Calif. to be closer to her family. It was a true blessing to spend that time with her. Mom is survived by, her children, Kirk Gorman of N. Hollywood, Calif., Kristi Wicker of Long Beach, Calif. and Jim Gorman of Hacienda Heights, Calif.; sister, Carolyn Mattloff; brother and sister in law, Richard and Donna Gorman of Sun City, Ariz.; her grandchildren, great grandchildren due in September and January, many nieces, nephews and cousins. We are going to miss her so much, but at the same time feeling blessed that she is now in heaven with our dad, playing golf and living pain free. Mom's Celebration of Life Services were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, July 12, 2014 at the Luyben Family Dilday-Mottell Mortuary, 5161 E. Arbor Rd., Long Beach, CA 90808 Ph# 562-425-6401 with a reception following. She was laid to rest with our dad at the Riverside National Cemetery, Riverside, Calif.
