John Charles Huntzinger

MILFORD - John Charles Huntzinger, Sr. 89, of Milford, Del., died Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013 at home. Mr. Huntzinger was born in Hamburg, Pa., the son of the late Wendell and Pearl (Hardinger) Huntzinger. He graduated from Hamburg High School in 1942. He entered Williamson Trade School in Media, Pa., in 1942 until 1943, when John was drafted into the U.S. Army for W.W. II. He served as a combat infantryman during five campaigns in the European Theatre where he received the bronze star. After his service to our country, John went back to the Williamson Trade School from 1945 to 1947, graduating with a degree in Painting and Decorating. He entered Kutztown State College in 1947 until 1951, graduating with a B.S. degree in Art Education. John began working from 1951 to 1952 as a teacher with Perry Township Board of Education in Shoemakersville, Pa. In 1952, John began working as an art teacher and later as an administrator for the Board of Education in Dover, N.J. until his retirement in 1987. While working, he continued his education at Columbia University in N.Y., N.Y. from 1954 until 1957, where he received a double Masters in Fine Arts and Fine Arts Education. From 1960 until 1963, John attended Kean College in Union N.J., doing graduate work in Administration and Supervision. He also worked part time at Kean College from 1962 until 1967. John was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Milford, where he served as an Elder of the church as well as Clerk of the Session. He was a member of the Milford Rotary Club and was a Paul Harris Fellow; a member and Past Director of the Milford Museum for about 10 years. John enjoyed square dancing and was known as a Mr. Fixit. He enjoyed reading and traveling, and was proud of the fact that he had travelled to all but 3 states in the U.S.A. and quite extensively abroad. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Helen Ruth Huntzinger; and three brothers, Wendell Huntzinger, Jr, Dr. James Huntzinger, and Henry Huntzinger. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Caroline F. Huntzinger; three sons. John Charles Huntzinger, Jr, of Virigina, Mark David Huntzinger, of New Mexico, and Hugh Allyn Huntzinger, of New Jersey; four grandchildren, John Joseph Huntzinger, Julia Hunt, Gray David Huntzinger, and Sarah Ann Huntzinger; and three great-grandchildren, Camryn Hunt, Corbyn Hunt and Colton Hunt. A Celebration of John's Life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013 at the First Presbyterian Church of Milford, 101 S. Walnut Street, Milford, Del. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to either The Williamson School, 106 South New Middleton Road, Media, Pa. 19063 or to the First Presbyterian Church of Milford, 101 S.
