Susan Benson Cox

WYOMING - After living every second of her life to its fullest, Susan Benson Cox went up to Heaven on April 28, 2014 at the age of 67. Susan was definitely a person whose passion and profession in life were one in the same – helping others in any way that she could. She was an elementary school teacher for twenty five years in the Caesar Rodney School District. Her classroom was her stage, where she brought lessons to life with her enthusiasm and creativity. During her retirement, she continued to teach by volunteering her time at The Little School, and to fuel her love of transforming into a character by playing Old Mother Hubbard and The Witch at the Loblolly Acres Halloween Trail. Susan also devoted many hours to Caring Hearts, Helping Hands, and gladly donated book bags packed with classroom supplies to schools in her community. Much of her leisure time was spent playing golf with her husband, David. Like her mother, Susan adored animals. She was a member of the Houston Cardinals 4H Club when she was a little girl, and as an adult, began the Green Acres 4H Club of Wyoming. Susan would love to tell stories of how she cared for her Jersey cows when she was a girl in Houston, DE, and was rarely seen without a dog following her around her house. She was even sometimes known to come to the rescue of a chicken that had fallen out of a truck headed to the poultry plant. Susan is survived by her husband of 46 years, David A. Cox; her two sons, Chester (Nelle) Cox and Colby (Jill) Cox and two grandsons, Maxwell and Jackson. She is also survived by her brother, John (Sharry) Benson; cousins Benton (Janet) Counselman and Katherine (William) Lewis, her nephew Brian Benson, and nieces Jacqueline Benson and Jennifer Shiring. The family will receive friends 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday evening, May 1, 2014 in the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming. Service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 2, 2014 at the Wyoming United Methodist Church, 216 Wyoming Mill Road, Dover. Burial will follow in Barratt's Chapel Cemetery, Frederica. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Caring Hearts, Helping Hands, P.O. Box 415 Camden, Wyoming, DE 19934 or Wyoming United Methodist Church, 216 Wyoming Mill Rd., Dover, DE 19904 or Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
