DOVER - Charles "Chuck" Heverin Short, died Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014 in Kent General Hospital, Dover. Chuck born in Dover, was raised in the town of Leipsic, on July 3, 1948 to the late Charles Edward and Helen Salter Parker Short. He graduated from Dover High School in 1966 and joined the Army National Guard. He worked for the State Hwy Department in the sign Shop, drawing traffic Signals and Road design section where he retired in 1987. He joined the Order of the DeMolay at age 14, went though the chairs becoming Master Counselor which he served two separate times. Was a life member of the Leipsic Volunteer Fire Company where he was a firefighter, ambulance attendant, fire recorder, ambulance captain., Secretary, and fire policeman. While he was a fire policeman, he served as secretary, chaplain, and vice president and was a life member of the Delaware State and Kent County Fire Policeman Assocations. He was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church of Dover, and the Modern Maturity Center. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Stephanie Renee Ellis. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Virginia McFarland Short; daughter, Charlene Moss and her husband David of Hartly; stepchildren, Carol Dill and her husband Walter of Felton, David Ellis and his wife Lynn of Madison, Ala., Donald Ellis of Kenilworth, N.J.; a brother, John Wayne Short and his wife Linda, who is also a step-daughter; also surviving are 17 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014 at the Torbert Funeral Chapel, 1145 E. Lebanon Rd (Rt.10) Dover, Delaware 19901; where friends may call Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. Interment will be in Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover, Delaware.
