HARRINGTON - Dale V. Dean passed away on Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012 at Bayhealth- Milford Memorial Hospital. He was born to the late Raymond C. and Bertha Bell Dean. Mr. Dean served his country proudly in the United States Navy as part of the Seabees, during WWII. He was stationed stateside at Long Beach, CA and in Rhode Island. Mr. Dean worked for over 41 years for DuPonts in Seaford. He was the Powerhouse Supervisor and retired June 13, 1985, after never missing a day from work. One of the highlights of his career was being asked to go to Germany in 1968 to help start up a new nylon plant, which he accomplished in 5 weeks. After his retirement, he kept busy with various jobs; the biggest was driving cars for Willis Chevrolet. Mr. Dean was a very active member of the Harrington Fire Company. He was a member for over 62 years, and served as President, Chief and other capacities. He drove any and all of the apparatuses, especially the ambulance. Upon his retirement in 1985, he became real active with the fire company, and logged over 2000 ambulance runs. In 1985, he was designated Fireman of the Year. He loved his beloved fire company and was truly a dedicated member. In his spare time, he loved to cut grass. Whether it was his own lawn, his daughters, or meeting up with several friends to cut the firehouse grass all on their John Deeres. Woodworking was a favorite hobby as well catching all the soccer games for his grandchildren. He loved to visit his beach home with his family and riding in his pontoon boat. He also enjoyed spending winters in Florida with his wife Irene. When he retired in 1985, they bought a motor home and visited every state in the continental US. They loved to travel and camp. He will be remembered as a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He loved his family, community and firehouse brethren very much. He had a great personality and was willing to help anyone at any time. One phone call was all that it took, and he was there. He was a member of the Harrington Fire Company, Harrington Moose 534, Trinity United Methodist Church, and the Good Sam Club. He was preceded in death by his son in-law, Paul Chandler; and brother, Robert Dean. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Irene O. Dean of Harrington; son and daughter-in-law, Dale B. Dean (Kimberly) of Harrington; daughter, Donna Faye Chandler of Harrington; grandchildren, Brooke Dean, Bailey Dean, and Samuel Forester and wife Julia; and great-grandchild, Annabelle Irene Forester. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 17, 2012 at the Harrington Fire Company. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service. Interment will be in the Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington.
