Manning, 92 CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Dorothy Rebecca Manning of Chestertow, formerly of Sudlersville, Md. died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012 at Chester River Manor. Dorothy R. Manning was born Oct. 30, 1920 in Millington, Md. the daughter of the late James Townsend and Virginia "Hudson". Mrs. Manning worked in sales for Fashion Bug for a number of years but spent most of her life as a homemaker. Mrs. Manning was a foster mother and a family creator for 30 years. In her 30 years of service as a foster parent, she and her late husband "Jack" Manning, helped over 300 children. She enjoyed sewing, puzzle books, country music and taking care of infants. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John T. "Jack" Manning Sr.; one daughter, Dorothy May Anderson; one son, John "Jerry" Manning Jr.; and two grandsons, Robert Higgs, Jr., and Michael Whalen, Sr. She is survived by three daughters, Nancy Whalen of Crumpton, Md., Ella Baker of Dover, Del., and Mattie Supers of Sudlersville, Md.; one foster son, Herman Reynolds of Centreville, Md.; one sister, Ann Townsend of Fla.; thirteen grandchildren; twenty two great-grandchildren; and fifteen great-great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013 at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, 370 Cypress St. Millington, MD. Friends may call one hour prior to service.
