ELLENDALE - George D. Smith passed away Monday, May 14, 2018 at Milford Memorial Hospital. He was born in Milford on Feb. 18, 1931 to the late James Courtland and Cora Irene Smith.
George was a member and Elder of the Milford Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. He started his career as a farmer, trapper, and then was drafted into the U.S. Army where he worked at Walter Reed Medical Hospital. Following his time in the Army, George was a local truck driver for over 50 years and was known by so many on the shore. He had a strong drive to help others and he possessed a strong love for his family. Many of his life values can be found and reflected on JW.ORG.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Winona H. Smith; and his son, Kenneth L. Smith.
He is survived by his two children, Wanda Lee Ferebee and Dan L. Smith; three grandchildren, Sara J. Street, Leah E. Smith, and Lindsey T. Smith; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, May 19, 2018 from 1 to 3 p.m. in the chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Home, 119 NW Front St., Milford, DE 19963. A memorial service will be held that same day at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 509 Airport Rd., Milford, DE 19963 at 3:30 p.m. Interment will be private.
