NEWARK - Helen M. Booker passed away peacefully Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013 at her home in Newark. Helen was born to the late Samuel and Gladys Fitzwater on Feb. 16, 1929 in Wilmington. She was next to the youngest of six brothers and three sisters. Her joy of cooking led her into her long career as "Head Cook" at the Hollywood Diner in Dover until her retirement. She made the best Bread Pudding around. She loved fishing in her younger years which is where she met her late husband, Capt. Julian "Jukie" Booker in Bowers Beach. They enjoyed many years together and weathered many Nor'easter Storms at their beach home. After the death of her spouse she moved in with her brother, Bob (Bo) to be closer to him and his children whom she dearly loved. She had a special wit and cheerful personality which made people enjoy being around her. She was like an anchor in a storm and an inspiration to all who knew her. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening, and "following the Stars of Hollywood". Although she had no children of her own she and her husband raised a stepson, Pete Potter and she had a special relationship with her "namesake," Helen Fitzwater Lee. She is eternally grateful for the care of her family and their friends that made it possible for her to spend her final days at home. She will be dearly missed by her brother, Robert (Bo) Fitzwater; nieces and nephew, Iona Muscella and husband Bob, Helen Lee and husband Jacob, Patty McCutchen and Ben, Robert Fitzwater Jr. and wife Mary Kay; her stepson, Pete Potter and wife Sue; grandchildren, Kristen Potter and Clifton Potter and his wife Stefanie; and her great nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday Jan. 24, 2013 at Trader Funeral Home, 12 Lotus St., Dover, DE. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until time of service. Interment will follow at Barratts Chapel Cemetary in Frederica.
