Abbott, Sr., 96 Herbert Earl Abbott, Sr., passed away Monday, March 25, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on December 01, 1916 in Dover, Del. to the late Edward and Minnie Berry Abbott. He was a member of Robbins Hose/Dover Fire Department, he served as secretary and on a number of committees, two of which were The 300th Anniversary of Volunteer Fire Service in the United States and Refurbishing of Fire Truck #8, Dover Fire Department. Mr. Abbott was a graduate of Dover High School class of 1937. Mr. Abbott retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1978, after 30 years, and was employed by Trader Funeral Home for many years. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army as a MSGT and serving in the National Guard. He was a member of the Walter L. Fox Post #2/American Legion-Dover; a life member of First Baptist Church Dover, serving on the Board of Trustees, various committees, in the Senior Choir and currently was the oldest member of FBC; and a member of the Modern Maturity Dover. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Caroline S. Abbott of Dover, Del.; son, and his wife, H. Earl Abbott, Jr. and Carol of Wyoming, Del.; daughter, Dorothy C. Abbott of Wyoming, Del., daughter and her husband, Kathryn A. and Walter Becker of Dover, Del.; grandchildren, Matthew L. and Jennifer L. Becker of Dover, Del. and Jonathan E. Abbott of Wyoming, Del. Friends may call Friday March 29, 2013, from 5 to 8 p.m at the Trader Funeral Home, 12 Lotus Street, Dover, DE. Services will be held the following day at 12:00 noon at Robbins Hose/Dover Fire Department, 103 Governors Ave., Dover, DE. Burial will be at the Sharon Hill Memorial Park following the service with fireman's honors. The family request that memorial contributions be given to First Baptist Church, 301 Walker Road Dover, DE 19904, or Dover Fire Department, 103 South Governors Ave. Dover, DE 19904.
