LOUISIANA - Howard Hurd, formerly of Felton passed away in Louisiana on Thursday, March 8, 2018.
Howard was a jovial person that everyone loved. His infectious laugh was captivating. He had this habit of when he wanted to get off the phone of saying that his ears were hot, aren't yours.
Howard was born and raised, in Felton, son of the late Charles W. and Mary E. Hurd. He resided in Felton most of his life. He worked for S & S Motors in Dover for over 25 years as a service manager. He moved to Sulphur, La., in 1980, where he worked as a surveyor for G.L.
Mr. Hurd received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Army with the rank of Sergeant.
He enjoyed watching TV and was especially fond of the show Family Feud with Steve Harvey. He also loved watching bowling and golf shows. He loved going to the horse races and playing poker as well as the slot machines.
In addition to his parents, Howard was preceded in death by siblings, Thelma Ford, Hazel Brummond, Marie Jenkins, Carolyn Willey, Leonard Hurd and Charles Hurd.
He is survived by five children, Mary E. Benham, Howard Hurd, Jr., Richard L. Hurd, Michael A. Hurd, and Linda F. Dittman; one sister, Mary Ann Metzner; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was also survived by his wonderful companion of 35 years, Dorothy Moyer whom he cherished. They had a special bond that was evident to everyone. He is also survived by a loving niece, Bonnie Walstead. He loved her beef and dumplings. He recently lost his companion, Thor, a miniature Doberman pincher that he walked twice a day every day.
A funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 in the chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Home, Main Street, Felton, DE 19943 with a visitation after 11 a.m. Burial will immediately follow at the Delaware Veterans Cemetery, Millsboro.
