DOVER - Jean G. Downes passed away Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013 in Capitol Nursing Rehab, Dover. She was born on April 30, 1928, last of nine children, in Greensboro, Md., daughter of the late Christian and Ada (Hutson) Gottwals. Jean was a homemaker and enjoyed singing. She was a member for 66 years of the First Baptist Church, Dover. In her younger years she was active with many singing organizations and the Dover Century Club. She is preceded in death by her husband, Arlie Franklin Downes. Jean is survived by children, Patrick Downes and his wife Linda of Conway, S.C., Melody Warren and her husband Hollis of Wyoming, and Mark Downes and his wife Mary of Camden; seven grandchildren, Kristin Wilkie, Michael Downes, Hollis Warren, Jr., Timothy Warren, Katheryn Downes, Rebecca Downes and Elise Downes; and two great-grandchildren, Braeden and Bennett Wilkie. Service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, where friends may gather one hour earlier. Burial will follow in Lakeside Cemetery, Dover. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the First Baptist Church Memorial Fund, 301 Walker Rd., Dover, DE 19904.
