DOVER - Pearl Hastings Ake, of Derby's Pond near Dover, and most recently of Harrison House in Georgetown, passed away on Monday, Oct. 18, 2010. She was 92. Mrs. Ake was born March 27, 1918, in Gumboro, to the late Lester F. Hastings and Bessie Hearn Hastings. Mrs. Ake graduated from Millsboro High School in 1936 and from Peninsula General Hospital School of Nursing in 1940. Following graduation she did both general and private duty nursing and was a school nurse for the Capitol School District for 35 years, retiring in 1980. Mrs. Ake was a member of the Delaware State Nurses Assoc., Delaware State Education Assoc., and School Health Advisory Council. Mrs. Ake was also a member of Wesley United Methodist Church for 50 years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J. Walter Ake; one brother, Glenn L. Hastings; and two sisters, Elizabeth H. Murray and Marian H. Smith. She is survived by two nieces, Barbara H. Rogers and husband Kenneth of Georgetown, and Maureen M. Daisy and husband Ray of Chincoteague, Va.; three nephews, Glenn L. Hastings of Dover, Bruce Hastings and wife Margaret of Denton, Md., and Michael G. Murray of Salisbury, Md. A Funeral Service will be 11 a.m., Friday, Oct. 22, 2010, at the Watson Funeral Home, 211 S. Washington Street, where friends may call one hour prior. Pastor James Burton will officiate. Interment will follow at Millsboro Cemetery, Millsboro. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity your choice. Letters of condolence may be emailed via www.watsonfh.com.
