HARTLY - Stephen vonBonin passed away Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at home.
Mr. VonBonin was born June 12, 1938 in Chicago, Ill. to the late Gerhardt VonBonin and Lillian Ruzkia VonBonin.
He retired from the United States Air Force after 22 years. After the service he received his Degree in Computer Science from Delaware State University and Del-Tech and Business Administration. Mr. vonBonin spent 6 years, for Amtrak in Ft. Washington, Pa. in sales because he spoke fluent French, and traveled all over the United States on trains. He was a train enthusiast a member of the National Organization Rail Passengers and started the Delaware branch, and was instrumental getting passenger service into Northern Delaware. He "spent time in the Air Force looking down through the clouds then time in trains looking up at them". Mr. vonBonin was the former President of the Hartly Lions Club.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his adored shihtzu, Ashley Hope.
Mr. VonBonin is survived by his wife 37 years, Anna C. Dorey VonBonin of Hartly; stepson, Michael Reynolds of Laurel; children, John, Fred and Josie Ann; four grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held 1p.m., Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 S. Bradford St., Dover. Friends may call one hour prior. Interment will be 11a.m., Thursday, June 14, 2018 at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE 19701.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to Delaware Hospice, 911 S. DuPont Highway, Dover, DE 19901.
