Our beloved mother, wife, sister, aunt, and friend, went home to be with the Lord on Dec. 1, 2012. Velma Scott, born on Feb. 11, 1945 to the parents of Anthony and Lizzie Mae Weldon, in Houston County Georgia and received her formal education in the Houston County public school system. On July 15, 1972, Velma migrated to Dover, Del. and began her new life with Peter J. Forbes. There they were united for seventeen years, until the latter of 1981. Although, they were not together, they remained in touch because of the children. On April 4, 1986, Velma was united with George McKinley Scott, in holy matrimony, until her untimely passing on December 1, 2012. Velma was not only known for her great cooking, she was also known for being a helping, loving, caring person, who would give you the world if she had it. She was also a sports enthusiast in her younger years. Velma was a Certified Nursing Assistant for various nursing homes and the Smyrna Home and Hospital. She worked at Terry's Children Center where she worked with children with behavioral problems for 15 years, until her retirement in 2005. She really loved working with the children and staff there at Terry. She was a member of Second Baptist Church, where she served as the Special Pastoral support, The Lucille Evans Missionary Circle, Second Baptist Church Mass Choir, The Willing Workers Circle, and the Second Baptist Church Ushers Unit. Velma was also a member of Hattie S. Blackwell Chapter#16 of the Order of the Eastern Stars, in Dover, Del. which she held several offices. She was a past Worthy Matron, Hospitality committee chairperson, and various other offices held while she was a member. Velma was preceded in death by her parents, Anthony and Lizzie Mae Weldon; her sisters, Carrie Mae Arline, Cassie Bagley, and Beulah Mae Allen. Velma also was preceded in death by her mother in law and father in law Margaret and McKinley Scott. Velma leaves to cherish her memories, her husband, George Scott of Dover, Del.; daughters, Teresa Weldon (Frances) of New Castle, Del., Barbara Dinkins of Newark, Del., adoptive daughter, Cynthia Tyson, Baltimore Md.; goddaughter, Jamie De Fazio Hackensack, N.J.; stepsons, William and Nowell Scott, Dover, Del; grandchildren, Christopher Dinkins, Newark, Del., Anthony Coleman, New Castle, Del., James Coleman, Jr., Newark, Del, Kristopher Scott, Andrew Smith, New Castle, Del., Monique Scott, Amari Scott, Jaden Paul, Jordan Paul of Dover, Del, Darrion Ireton of Northeast, Md., Azriel Tingle, Kynjuan Tunstill-Scott, Lisa Walters, Olivia Walters all of Dover, Del, Joran Merced, Brenda Merced of New Castle, Del, Christopher Tyson and Christina Tyson of Baltimore, Md.; great-grandchildren, Kynjuan Tunstill-Scott, Jr., Malik Walters of Dover, Del., Idalis Rodriguez, and Isaiah Gaynor of New Castle, Del., sister Estell Mims (Lawrence) of Macon, Ga.; brothers, Lawrence Weldon (Joyce), Richard Weldon (Yvonne), Eddie Weldon, Anthony Weldon, Jr. (Helen), Samuel Tharpe all of Warner Robins, Ga.; sister in law, Joan Cruz (Martin) of Randallstown, Md.; brother in law, Michael Scott of Northeast, Md.; and aunt Christine Bivins of Warner Robins, Ga and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. The family would like to thank Tiffany Fisher for her generosity during the time my mother had surgery. She depended on you a lot and really appreciated you being there. Viewing will be 10 to 11 a.m with funeral service beginning at 11 a.m at Second Baptist Church, 407 W. Loockerman St., Dover, DE on Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012.
