MILFORD - William A. Ward, 85, of Milford, died Thursday, June 7, 2012 at the Delaware Veterans Home, Milford. Mr. Ward was the son of the late Amos Ward and Helen (Sturgis) Hendricks. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. Mr. Ward worked at the DuPont Seaford Plant for 40 years as a machine operator. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking, carpentry, gardening and watching his purple martins. He also enjoyed his dobermans that he raised. He was a member of the Houston United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Pauline B. "Polly" Ward in 2009; and a grandson, Todd Layton in 2004. He is survived by a son, William Michael Ward of Milford; two daughters, Donna Layton and her husband Bruce of Randleman, N.C. and Sandra Nickerson and her fiance' Jay Truitt of Harrington; two grandchildren, Daryl Layton and Jenna White and her husband DaVon; and four great grandchildren, Ashley Layton, Kasyn White, Kiersyn White and Stacie Leigh Layton; and a half brother, C. Wayne Hendricks of Harrington. Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Monday, June 11, 2012 at the Lofland Funeral Home, 102 Lakeview Avenue, Milford where friends may call from 12 to 2 pm. Entombment will be in Milford Community Cemetery, Rt. 113, Milford. In lieu of flowers the family asks contributions be made to either the Delaware Veterans Home, 100 Delaware Veterans Blvd., Milford, DE 19963 or to the Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
