MILFORD - William O. Stokes passed away on Wednesday, March 4, 2014 at Milford Center. He was born in Milford, DE, the son of the late Otis and Ella Mae (Peterman) Stokes. He was a mail carrier for Milford Post Office. He also farmed lima beans and sweet potatoes. He was a Tyler at Temple Lodge A.F. and A.M. #9, a Life member and Fire Police for many years for South Bowers Fire Co. He was also a member of Carlisle Fire Co. and on the Ambulance Squad for many years. He enjoyed bowling. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his great-granddaughter, Logan Marvel, sister, Lillian Fitzgerald and brother, Richard Stokes. He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Eliza Jones Stokes, children, William O. Stokes, Jr. and wife Beverly, Ellen Donovan and E. Martin Stokes and wife Sue, all of Milford; grandchildren, David Stokes, Steven Stokes, Dawn Holman, Staci Marvel and Candace Stokes and 6 great grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held Sunday. March 9, 201 4 at 2:00 pm in the chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Home, 119 NW Front St., Milford, DE, where friends may call Saturday night from 6 to 8 pm. Interment will be in Milford Community Cemetery, Milford, De.
