HARRINGTON - Mary E. Kiefer of St. Petersburg, Fla.went to her eternal rest on Saturday, April 26th. Born July 10th, 1927 in Bayonne, N.J. She was preceded in death by her parents, seven siblings, and her beloved husband of 59 years; Jacob Kiefer. Prior to moving to St. Petersburg, Mary was a long-time resident of Harrington, Del., where she enjoyed the fellowship of St. Bernadette Catholic Church and the New Century Club. Earlier in her adult life, she had worked as a secretary. The job she relished most was Mother to all of those surrounding her. She is survived by her three children; Deborah (Andrew) Dowell of Gainesville, Fla., Jacob (Robin) Kiefer, of Boonton Township, N.J., and Janet Kiefer of St. Petersburg, Fla. Mary was the beloved "Nana" of Brian Egbert, Jake Kiefer, Jaimie Egbert, Jacque Kiefer, and Mary Elizabeth Dowell. Jaimie and William Kiefer, of Jensen Beach, Fla., were among her group of cherished in-laws. In addition, her survivors include numerous beloved nieces and nephews. She will be remembered by all who met her as a generous and sweet lady who offered food and fellowship to all she met. In lieu of flowers, her family asks that a donation be made in her memory to Catholic Charities, The
, Hospice, or St. Jude Children's Hospital. Services will be held Monday, May 5, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington where friends may visit Sunday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. Interment will be held in Delaware Veterans Cemetery, Bear, DE.
