DOVER - Eugene Lee Edwards of Dover passed away Thursday, June 19, 2014 at Kent General Hospital. He was 84. Mr. Edwards was born August 10, 1929 in Flint, Michigan to the late Charles Edwards and Nettie Williams Edwards. He served in the United States Air Force and retired as a Flight Engineer. Mr. Edwards served for 20 years retiring in 1971. After his military career he went to work for Playtex, where he was the manager of maintenance and supplies. He had also worked for 12 years as a driver for a dental lab. Mr. Edwards was a member of the Union Lodge #7 AF&AM for 40 years, where he had been past Master, and past Senior Grand Warden. He also served as secretary for 15 years. He was a member of the Eastern Star Victory Chapter #15 where he was past Patron. Also past Grand Patron of the Grand Chapter of Delaware. Mr. Edwards enjoyed traveling and fellowship with friends and family. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Chet and James Edwards; and sister, Delores Graham. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Joan Kathryn Collins of Dover; daughters, Jeanie Burr and her husband Mac of Junction City, Ore., Janet Harker and her husband David of Vacaville, Calif., Joan Siler and her husband Thomas of Dover and Jackie Estes and her husband Herb of Snyder, Okla.; seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Funeral services will be 12 p.m., Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10), Dover. Friends may call 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Monday, June 23, 2014 at the funeral home where an Eastern Star service will be held at 6:30 p.m. followed by a Masonic service at 7 p.m. Interment will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, June 25, 2014 in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children International Headquarters, 2900 Rocky Point Dr. Tampa, FL 33607 or , 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
