PRESTON, Md. - J. Mervin Usilton of Preston, Md. died Thursday, July 10, 2014, at the Q.A. Hospice Home in Centreville, Md. He was 79 years old. Known as "Puppy", Mr. Usilton was born in Greensboro, Md. on August 26, 1934. He was the son of the late Norman Usilton and Elizabeth Draper Usilton and his step-mother, Laura Shores Usilton, of Greensboro. Mr. Usilton was a 1951 graduate of Greensboro High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran and eventually became an Engineer for Delmarva Power, retiring in the mid 1980's. At that time, he started selling cars at Smith Ford in Denton, from which he retired in the late 1990's. He was an outgoing friend to everyone he met. He loved his family, his friends, country music, and his dogs, Buddy Boy and Tipster, and his granddog, Jazz. In addition to his step-mother, Mr. Usilton is survived by his wife, Lois S. Usilton of Preston; his daughter, Dawn Detwiler and her husband Mike of Preston; two brothers, Norman "Big Dog" Usilton and his wife Eleanor of Federalsburg, Md. and Tom Usilton, Sr. and his wife Doris of Denton; two sisters, Judy Corkell and her husband Michael of Denton and Virginia "Betty" Baker of Greensboro; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Monday, July 14, 2014 at the Moore Funeral Home, P.A., 12 S. Second Street in Denton, Md. where friends may visit with the family from 12:30 p.m. until 2 p.m. before the service. The interment will be in the Greensboro Cemetery.
