MILTON - Meriam Janet Reed passed away at her home in Milton on Tuesday, July 22, 2014. She born in Andersontown, Md. on June 25, 1938, daughter of the late Dallas Neal and Meriam (Wheatley) Neal. Although originally from Andersontown, Janet resided in Milton for many years in which she considered her second home. She worked as a secretary for State Farm Insurance Agency, eventually retiring in 2004. Janet's hobbies including sewing, cooking for her loved ones, gardening (especially tending to her rose bushes), and most importantly, spending as much quality time with her children and grandchildren as she possibly could. She was also a lifelong member of Concord United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, Janet is preceded in death by her loving husband, Richard R. Reed, Jr.; and her sister, Jean Behlkey. Janet is survived by her three children, Brenda Smith (Greensboro, Md.), Janet Lynn Schaffer and her husband Bill (Denton, Md.), and Stephen Lynch (Milton); two sisters, Myrtle Ann Scott and Mary Katherine Elzie; four brothers, Wheatley Neal, J.D. Neal, Keith Neal, and Paul Fugitt; her 11 grandchildren, Brian Stayton and his girlfriend, Georgia (Ridgley, Md.), April Stayton and her boyfriend, Chuck (Denton, Md.), Shane Cohee and his fiancé, Harley Isaacs (Preston, Md.), Seth Cohee (Denton, Md.), Tori Comeaux and her husband, Brian (Smyrna), Tyler Wood (Denton, Md.), Talia Hedley (Greensboro, Md.), Savannah Pate (Greensboro, Md.), Troy Smith (Greensboro, Md.), Jeramey Lynch (Milton), and Kasey Clark and her husband, Kenny (Lincoln), and seven great-grandchildren. Janet is also survived by her faithful canine companion, Chloe. A visitation will be held on Sunday, July 27, 2014, where friends and family may call between the hours of 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. at Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal Street Milton, DE 19968. The funeral service will take place at Concord United Methodist Church 7112 Dion Rd. Federalsburg, MD 21632 on Monday July 28, 2014 at 1 p.m. Interment will immediate follow the service at Concord Cemetery. Janet's grandsons will be the honorary pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Delaware Hospice Milford: 100 Patriots Way Milford, DE 19963 and Concord United Methodist Church: P.O. Box 416 Denton, MD 21629.
